SAM.gov Registration Checklist

1. 1. Obtain an EIN (Employer Identification Number)Free from the IRS - required before you can register.

3. 3. Identify your NAICS codesThe industry codes that describe what your business does.
4. 4. Create a Login.gov accountSAM.gov authenticates through Login.gov.
5. 5. Get your Unique Entity ID (UEI)Assigned in SAM.gov - replaced the old DUNS number.
6. 6. Complete entity registration in SAM.govBusiness info, points of contact, and assertions.
7. 7. Finish Reps & CertsFAR/DFARS representations and certifications.
8. 8. Receive your CAGE codeAssigned by DLA during registration - can take a few days.
9. 9. Confirm 'Active' registration statusYou can't be awarded a contract until registration is active.
10. 10. Set a renewal reminder (annual)SAM.gov registration must be renewed every 12 months.

Registration in SAM.gov is free - you never have to pay to register. Be cautious of third-party sites that charge for it. Processing (especially CAGE code assignment and entity validation) can take days to weeks, so start well before a deadline.
