What is a Unique Entity ID (UEI)?
The UEI is a free 12-character identifier assigned in SAM.gov that identifies your business to the federal government. It replaced the DUNS number in 2022.
The Unique Entity ID (UEI) is how the government identifies your business across its systems - for registration, contracts, and payments. It's a 12-character alphanumeric code assigned directly in SAM.gov.
In April 2022 the UEI replaced the older DUNS number. Obtaining a UEI is free; you request it as part of your SAM.gov entity registration.
