Request for Proposal (RFP)

A solicitation asking vendors to propose how they'll meet a requirement.

A Request for Proposal (RFP) is a solicitation in which the government describes its requirement and evaluation criteria and asks vendors to submit detailed technical and price proposals. RFPs are typically used for negotiated procurements where factors beyond price matter. Related types include the RFQ (quote) and RFI (information, no award).
